Pordenone (Italy), March 2021 – IES Biogas opened a new branch in Serbia. This is an important step in the internationalization plan that the company, which specializes in the design, construction and maintenance of biogas and biomethane plants in the waste, food & beverage and agricultural sectors, started in 2015.
Serbia is a country where IES Biogas (Snam group) is pursuing ambitious projects: it has already built 4 plants and, from next spring, a further development of the pipeline is expected with the construction of 5 new plants. These biogas plants are located in different regions of the country and process livestock waste, agricultural by-products and second-harvest crops: a great opportunity for farms to self-feed and produce clean energy, reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.
Zorana Mihajlović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mines and Energy, last January has officially inaugurated Pepo Energy, the 1,200 kW plant built by IES Biogas in Novi Milosevo, Serbia, using agricultural biomass, mostly pumpkin pulp and wheat residues. The Provincial Secretary for energy, construction and transport, Ognjen Bjelic, and other representatives of the ministry and local authorities attended the grand opening ceremony.
The project will accelerate the development of local communities in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, by creating new jobs and promoting a model of agriculture that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. According to the announcement of Minister Mihajlovic, the newly completed and under construction plants will enable Serbia to significantly increase its production of electricity from biogas.
Marco Mazzero, Chief Executive Officer of IES Biogas says: “Over the last years, we have been constantly expanding our horizons and positioning as leading industry players in various markets, such as Italy, France, the Balkans, South America and Asia, building plants in 12 different countries around the world. The opening of this new branch in Serbia marks a further step in our international development path and will allow us to actively contribute to the energy transition in the country and to promote sustainable agriculture to the benefit of local communities”.
