Morris, MN – Minnesota’s first renewable natural gas (RNG) plant is now operational thanks to Amp Americas, a pioneer in renewable transportation fuel since 2011, and DMT Clear Gas Solutions, a leading technology supplier for biogas conditioning and upgrading. With more than 150 RNG projects currently operational in the United States, Riverview, LLP is now the state’s first dairy to produce renewable energy generated by dairy manure.
Developed by Amp Americas, this three-dairy facility captures over 700,000 gallons of daily manure to convert 2000 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) of biogas into more than 98 percent RNG using DMT’s membrane separation technology, the Carborex® MS.
“DMT completes another renewable natural gas project with Amp Americas. What a huge innovation it has been. We are proud to have doubled the amount of renewable natural gas produced with half the amount of membranes,” said Robert Lems, general manager of DMT Clear Gas Solutions.
Riverview is the second collaboration between DMT and Amp Americas. It’s also Amp Americas’ largest dairy RNG project to date. Additionally, 140 people were employed during the project’s construction and added six permanent full-time jobs in Morris, bringing Amp Americas’ total jobs created from dairy RNG to 60 people across six states.
“Amp Americas is investing heavily in dairy renewable natural gas projects across the country. Our projects deliver ultra-low carbon fuel to market reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing significant economic benefits to our farm partners and the communities in which we work. Strong partnerships with technology suppliers like DMT are very important to us as we pursue our aggressive development plans,” said Grant Zimmerman, CEO at Amp Americas.
Overall, biogas conditioning and upgrading removes trace impurities in the biogas stream and separates carbon dioxide from methane. The result is pipeline-spec RNG suitable for injection into the natural gas grid and/or direct use for vehicle fuel. RNG offers many benefits which include:
