Small Agricultural Companies More Sustainable Thanks to Biogas

Sebigas expands its product portfolio and presents solutions for plants from 50 to 300 kW

Complete return of investment and reuse of electricity and thermal energy

The agricultural sector plays a fundamental role in Italy and is the foundation of the entire agri-food chain. The majority of companies in this sector are family-owned and of medium-small size.

In Italy, there are more than 1800 biogas plants in operation (of which about 1,500 in the agricultural sector). Potentially, our Country could produce up to 8.5 billion cubic meters of biomethane by 2030, equivalent to about 12-13% of the current annual natural gas demand.

Now, even these small entrepreneurial realities can become biogas producers and take advantage of it by equipping themselves with a plant that is proportionate to the company’s size. Sebigas, a company specialized in the design and construction of biogas plants, has more than 80 active plants, with 75% of references in the agricultural and livestock sector. The company expands its product portfolio by presenting modular plants available in sizes of 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 kW, designed by a team of experienced and qualified engineers.

What sets Sebigas plants apart is the presence of standardized components, calibrated to the specific capacities of the farm. Such a plant has multiple advantages because it requires a low initial investment, has reduced authorization and delivery times, is easy to build and maintain, and integrates with existing structures on the farm. Small-scale plants can be powered by the farm’s own effluents and are designed to maximize energy yield, providing the agricultural company with a new source of income.

The agricultural sector is at a turning point. Ecological transition has become an increasingly urgent necessity, especially for this sector. At Fieragricola, we had the opportunity to present our small-scale plants and provide a cost-effective, quickly authorized, and easily installed solution for the small and medium-sized livestock segment to generate income for the farm. Our goal, as a company specialized in design, is to provide our customers with a plant that can be an added value for the agricultural company and a support tool for their business,” says Federico Torretta, General Manager of Sebigas.

The advantages of producing biogas are calculable and certain. Thanks to the new plant, the company can start producing the electricity needed for self-consumption internally or feed it into the grid and thus generate income. It can recover excess heat for the thermal needs of the company’s processes, such as heating the stable or milking room, etc.; it can use the digestate produced by the plant as fertilizer. From an authorization perspective, especially for smaller sizes, the process is much smoother and allows for reaching the construction phase much more rapidly.
