Description

Anita™ Mox is Veolia’s Anammox solution for cost and energy-efficient nitrogen removal, primarily used for municipal sidestream treatment and industrial applications. It is based on Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology, which utilizes anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) processes within a biofilm to achieve nitrogen removal. The technology can be configured as either MBBR or Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge (IFAS) and integrates with Veolia’s Hubgrade system for process optimization and CO2 emission control.

Key advantages of Anita™ Mox include significant cost and energy savings due to reduced oxygen consumption (up to 60% less) and no chemical oxygen demand (COD) requirement (up to 100% less) compared to conventional methods. It offers environmental benefits such as lower CO2 emissions and reduced sludge production. The system is compact, requiring a smaller footprint (20-70% of activated sludge systems), and is robust, stable, and flexible, allowing for easy retrofitting and high tolerance to process variations and toxicity. It achieves high performance with 90-95% NH4-N removal.

Anita™ Mox is applied in various settings, including municipal sidestream treatment and industrial wastewater treatment. Specific examples of full-scale installations (44 in the world) include the Denver CO plant (USA), the Luggage Point WWTP in Brisbane (Australia), the Five Fords plant in Welsh Water (UK), and more recently a first-of-its-kind: the WM Ste-Sophie (CAN) biomethanization centre, demonstrating its effectiveness in treating reject water from waste digestion.
