Active Iron solutions for the AD market

April 28th, 2017 – OMEX Environmental is supplying a new non-hazardous iron powder product to the anaerobic digestion industry for the minimisation of hydrogen sulphide levels in a plant’s fermenter. Biogas can often contain hydrogen sulphide which needs to be removed to avoid odour and corrosion issues occurring. The dissolved H2S in high concentrations can be toxic to the bacteria in the slurry which can inhibit the production of biogas and cause its composition to alter.

Senators propose 100 percent renewable energy in the US by 2050

April 28th, 2017 – Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, along with Sens. Edward J. Markey, D-Massachusetts and Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, introduced landmark climate legislation that would transition the U.S. to 100 percent clean and renewable energy by 2050, the “100 by ’50 Act”. It is the first bill introduced in Congress that will fully envision a transition off of fossil fuels for the United States.

Project aims to turn wastewater treatment facilities into revenue generators

May 1st, 2017 – Researchers in Guelph, Ont., an hour’s drive west of Toronto, are hoping to mine the money out of sewage with a new technology that maximizes anaerobic digestion at wastewater treatment plants. The project is led by GE Water and Process Technologies with partnership from universities and funding from the federal and provincial governments and the Southern Ontario Water Consortium (SOWC). On trial is a new technology that can triple biogas production from existing digesters at wastewater treatment plants and creates pathogen-free biosolids.

NEW STUDY SHOWS RENEWABLE NATURAL GAS IN TRANSPORTATION CAN CREATE UP TO 130,000 JOBS AND GENERATE NEARLY $14 BILLION IN ECONOMIC BENEFITS FOR CALIFORNIA

May 1st, 2017 – A new jobs study reveals that deploying trucks fueled by renewable natural gas could create up to 130,000 new jobs and add $14 billion to California’s economy. The ‘RNG Jobs Report’ examines the economic potential of fueling heavy-duty trucks with renewable natural gas produced in California, instead of being powered by petroleum-based diesel.

Companies Collaborate to Extend CNG Mobility in Germany

May 2nd, 2017 – Goal: 1 million CNG Vehicles by 2025, 2000 CNG filling stations. Volkswagen Group together with operators of CNG filling stations and gas networks have signed a joint declaration of intent, committing themselves to the extension of CNG mobility in Germany. Other signatories to the agreement are E.ON Gas Mobil GmbH, Gazprom NGV Europe GmbH, Gazu GmbH, ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH, Open Grid Europe GmbH, Pitpoint B.V. and TOTAL Deutschland GmbH.

Twin Cities Waste Collection Fleet Upgraded to CNG by Republic Services

May 2nd, 2017 – Republic Services unveiled a new compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station and over 50 new CNG-powered trucks to serve customers throughout the Twin Cities region on May 2nd. The new CNG trucks are replacing older, diesel-powered trucks in the company’s Twin Cities-based fleet. Republic Services operates a total of 115 collection vehicles that serve customers in both Eden Prairie and Hennepin County. Nearly 50 percent of Republic Services’ fleet in the area is powered by the domestic natural gas fuel source. Clean Energy Fuels designed and built the CNG fueling station.

DNV GL and National Grid win contract to help unlock potential of low carbon gases such as biomethane

May 2nd, 2017 – The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) has awarded National Grid Gas Distribution, in partnership with DNV GL, a major new innovation contract which will seek to improve the way gas bills are calculated, and enable the use of lower carbon alternative gases to fuel the homes and businesses of the future. Unlike electricity, gas must be measured first in volume terms and then have its energy content assigned.

San Diego Plans Fully-CNG Waste Collection Fleet by 2022

May 3rd, 2017 – The city of San Diego, California is to switch its entire fleet of refuse and recycling collection trucks from diesel fuel to compressed natural gas (CNG) – a cleaner-burning fuel that significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves taxpayer dollars. Gradually replacing aged vehicles, the fleet will be fully transitioned to CNG by 2022. “We all know that vehicle emissions are the leading cause of air pollution so the City is leading by example,” Mayor Faulconer said when announcing the transition.

Richland, Washington, issues RFP for landfill gas project developer

May 4th, 2017 – The U.S. EPA Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) has announced information about a request for proposals (RFP) from the city of Richland, Washington. The city of Richland owns and operates the Horn Rapids Landfill, an active municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal site with a landfill gas (LFG) collection system. The current landfill cell is expected to reach capacity in 2020, after which the LFG collection system will be expanded.
